|| Current Understanding ? ||

This post I would like to dedicate to what I already know about Elizabethan beauty. One of the main things I know is what the trends were... For example, the fact that red hair was so desired people used dangerous chemicals to dye theirs. Pale skin complimented with red cheeks and red lips were also a big part of the 'Elizabethan look' and were therefore a sigh of wealth. A pale complexion could have only been achieved by the upper class women as they were not required to work outside which stopped them from getting a suntan. A higher forehead meant someone was more intelligent. This look was often not natural as women used to shave their hair line off to create this effect. Eyebrows were also bleached to enhance this look.

A modern version of an 'Elizabethan look' is definitely Paloma Faith. Who is a well known British singer and song writer.

Her look defines Elizabethan beauty in a very authentic way. She has red, loose hair... Pale complexion and red lips. However, there have beed added modern touches to this look. The eyebrows have been emphasised a lot more then they usually would be with an Elizabethan look. Also, the cheeks aren't that red, which is one of the biggest parts of the look. What I find fascinating is how it reminds me of that particular era but still looks quite modern and fresh. This is something I would like to include in my final look. I want it to be fresh and new, not expectable and a copy of something that has already been done before. The way she is posing in that photo also makes me a bit intrigued because it adds character to the whole thing and created a real symbol. The background is blurry- the depth of field deifnitely emphasises the character! But it is also grey/light blue, which is a very good background colour I think, because it does not steal our attention (well, not mine at least!). This is also something I want to think about while creating my look. The look I create, needs to be in the centre of attention. It needs to steal it!
